Manic Street Preachers announce Dublin gig
The Welsh rock band will perform at the Olympia Theatre on October 22
Manic Street Preachers have announced a Dublin gig later this year. The Welsh rock band will perform at the 3Olympia Theatre on October 22.
The date is a standalone show ahead of their UK co-headlining tour with Suede, which includes nine dates in total. The tour will kick off in Glasgow and conclude in Bournemouth.
The announcement follows the release of their 15th studio album, Critical Thinking, last year. The record peaked at number one on the Scottish Albums Chart and number two on the UK Albums Chart. The band are also set to perform at the Corona Capital and INmusic Festival.
Hot Press reviewed a performance by the band alongside Suede at the Trinity Summer Series: “Around 30 years ago, the late, lamented Select magazine opined that in the Britpop landscape, Manic Street Preachers and Suede stood apart as two bands who were “a cause – a belief system”. What would have been the odds that, 30 years later, they’d still be serving the same purpose? […] What an evening – that’s my gig of the year sorted, for sure.”
Manic Street Preachers are made up of vocalist and guitarist James Dean Bradfield, drummer Sean Moore and bassist Nicky Wire. They released their debut album, Generation Terrorists, in 1992.
Former member Richey Edwards disappeared in the mid-1990s. The band's ninth studio album, Journal for Plague Lovers, was made entirely from lyrics he left behind.
The tickets will be available on Friday, May 29, at 10 am here.
