Brody Dalle - Meet the Foetus/Oh The Joy
Not quite the leather-lunged, smash-mouth, punk rock tour de force that I had hoped for, former Distillers frontwoman Brody Dalle’s first stab at a solo career is a mean, moody and borderline mediocre affair. ‘Meet The Foetus’ kicks things off in underwhelming fashion thanks to a forgettable chorus; not even appearances from Garbage’s Shirley Manson and Warpaint’s Emily Kokal can save this mid-paced misfire. ‘Oh The Joy’ on the other hand is an up-tempo, spiky tune that hints that Brody’s punk days might not be over yet; here’s hoping there’s more like it on her upcoming debut.
