Breezy iDeyGoke and Art of Algebra release new video 'Felonious Monk'
The video offers listeners a preview of the duo's upcoming collaborative EP.
Breezy iDeyGoke and Art of Algebra have released a on-stage video for their new song 'Felonious Monk'.
The single was produced under the Art of Algebra's artist residency at Ballina Arts Centre, and is the first single to be released off their upcoming collaborative EP.
Breezy iDeyGoke is an afrobeats influenced R&B musician, while Art of Algebra is the alias of Sligo electronic artist David Hallinan. In 2021, director Mark JD Smyth’s music video for ‘Praying on a Gamble’ by the duo was shortlisted for a Kinsale Shark Award.
"We recorded a live performance of Felonious Monk at Ballina Arts Centre just before playing a gig there," said producer Art of Algebra. "It’s stripped back and up close, so hopefully will give people a flavour of how we perform live. Fionn Rogers, who shot the video, is a film-maker from my native Enniscrone. Everything he does is visually rich and creative."
The trip-hop track's title is a nod to late Jazz composer and pianist, Thelonious Monk.
"With us making a return after a hiatus, it feels right to go back to certain fundamentals and pay homage to the early hip-hop sounds of NYC," commented Breezy iDeGoke. "We have some exciting things in the pipeline, some of which are nastier than this. ‘Felonious’ feels like we are entering the ring, but the fight is yet to come."
