Born To Die
x
Much like ‘Video Games’, the song that transformed Lana Del Rey from a little-known singer-songwriter to the hottest thing in music, ‘Born To Die’, is a grower, not a shower. After the seventh play, the billowing strings and stark electronic beats start to get under your skin, but the thing that gets you as far as that seventh play will surely be Del Rey’s impenetrable voice. The Gaga-worthy intensity can feel a little contrived at times (is there a hammier line than, “Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain, you like your girls insane”?) but we’re still powerless to resist that purr of hers.
