Borders music, film and book store to open in Ireland
The already crowded music retail market here is set to get even busier with the American Borders Group unveiling plans to open its first Irish outlet in the autumn.
The 20,000 sq ft store will be based in Blanchardstown’s West End Retail Park and carry around 200,000 music, book, film and magazine titles. The first of what the company describes as “multiple locations” in Ireland, it will also host live performances, book signings, children’s performances and a branch of Starbucks.
“We’re excited about coming to Ireland and honoured to be part of the exciting West End Retail Park development,” says Borders Group International President Rick Vanzura.
“We look forward to welcoming the Dublin community through our doors to experience what sets Borders apart worldwide – excellent customer service, vast title selection and a passion for books – something we share with this great country whose writers have produced some of the world’s greatest literary works.”
The company, which turned over $3.9 billion in 2004, may have its business plan in place, but in asserting that Blanchardstown is only a “10 to 15 minute commute from the city centre” displays woeful ignorance of Dublin’s traffic problems.
