Jeff Tweedy's memoir earns our top pick as Music Book of the Fortnight.
The man behind revered Chicago alternative-rock band Wilco, Jeff Tweedy could easily be considered one of the best American songwriters of the last 20 years. In this, Tweedy's own memoir about his life, he brings everything to the table - including music, family, rehab, collaborations and his own artistic process.
Most memoirs tend to be self-serving exercises, and Tweedy struggles to escape that feel in parts of the book. Overall, though, his tale is genuinely very moving. The deeper he goes into his family life, the more rewarding the story. And for fans who have pored over the meanings behind Wilco's songs for years, this will be an essential read.
