Pairing the unlikely bedfellows of the blues and hip hop might seem as crazy as a 60-year old Christian DUP MLA sleeping with a 19-year-old boy, but unlike Iris Robinson’s recent sordid affair, this is one marriage that actually works. The brainchild of the Black Keys, Blakroc’s debut features talents such as Ludacris, RZA and Mos Def spitting rhymes over some dirty bass and guitar and it’s a thrilling experiment from start to finish. Highlights include Mos Def contemplating the meaning of life on the swooning ‘On The Vista’ and the RZA’s ‘Dollar & Sense’ gives it a close run for its money. If Blakroc can get all the acts together for a tour then expect this record to fly off the shelves.
