Black Penny
Blues-rock behemoths make unashamedly old-school debut.
Firmly rooted in the world of classic blues-rock, Co. Mayo’s Black Penny Band’s debut offering is a relatively straightforward seven-track affair that delivers boogie-woogie riffs by the bucket-load and boasts a raw live-style production that really lets the songs breathe. ‘Shame On You’ and ‘Devil Woman’ are Lizzy-indebted numbers that rock with the best of them and while at times the vocals can be a little uninspired (‘Hot Tonight’) the three-piece’s unrelenting grooves are what really make this record a must-listen for fans of the genre.
