Trinidad-born, London-based R&B artist Berwyn has announced the release date of his upcoming debut album Who Am I.
Critically-acclaimed London rapper and R&B artist Berwyn has announced the details of his upcoming debut album Who Am I, a 13-track collection due out on July 12th via Columbia Records. A seamless blend of hip hop, R&B and spoken word, the album is set to feature the rising singer’s recent releases ‘Neighbours’ and ‘I Am Black’, striving to highlight some of the most pressing issues that face Britain today.
Who Am I details the intimate discoveries within Berwyn’s ongoing search for meaning and freedom, exploring the countless memories, places and forces that have shaped his life as he reflects on faith and religion, wrestles with themes of addiction and embraces the warmth of love. Bound by the rich layers of Berwyn’s predominantly self-produced soundscape, the upcoming record navigates themes of immigration and race as it draws listeners along a path of internal liberation and resilience.
The album announcement comes paired with the release of Berwyn’s brand new single ‘Dear Immigration’, a searing spoken word track that explores the inherent brokenness within the immigration system.
“You make me feel like a fugitive and runaway," he says in the song. “You make me look at the mirror in horror, you took my tomorrow…I want you to know since I was nine I felt like a crime, I used to imagine you coming for me every day of my life.”

Already a hallmark on the British music scene, it's hard to believe that the Trinidad-born, London-based artist has yet to release a full record. With two mixtapes - including Mercury Prize nominated DEMOTAPE/VEGA - and EP and countless collaborations under his belt, Berwyn is far from a newcomer. An authentic and unapologetic creative force, the Trinidad native continues to evolve as he blurs the boundaries between poetry and music, crafting fiercely political and deeply personal records that speak to life in modern Britain.
