Autamata for the people via Mitsubishi TV
Reluctant to follow in the tradition of 'toilet tour' promotion, Autamata will be selling his music - and a few cars - when his track 'Fragments' features in an American TV ad for Mitsubishi
If the success of Dirty Vegas is anything to go by, Autamata can expect to score an instant fan base in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Canada and the US, where his instrumental track, ‘Fragments’, is to feature on a Mitsubishi television campaign.
“The music I make is quite soundtracky in general,” says the Dublin producer Ken McHugh, who is negotiating a North American release for his My Sanctuary album. “Since I’ve decided not to do the whole toilet tour thing for two or three years I have to exploit my music in some other ways.”
And who better than the ad man responsible for distributing Moby to the world? Admitting that Moby “overdid it a bit”, McHugh insists on a quality control over his music’s commercial use.
“I was offered three or four ads which I declined whether it was because of research I’d done on the company or by virtue of the ad itself.”
Autamata tunes are also being considered for a number of Hollywood films, with ‘Jive County’ already confirmed for the soundtrack to Standing Still, the next Rom-Com flick starring Colin Hanks.
Meantime, Autamata has been busy preparing for the bumper re-release of My Sanctuary. The album has been substantially re-recorded and re-mastered with McHugh describing the end product as “sonically better”.
Due for release on May 7, My Sanctuary has been repackaged with new artwork and also features the D.A.D.D.Y-animated video for ‘Jellyman’. Autamata is currently on tour in the UK and will be playing live, full-band dates around Ireland at the end of May.
