Artists pay tribute to the late Derek Nally
The likes of Bell X1, Mundy and David Kitt gathered at the Grand Social on Saturday
The Dublin promoter, booker, manager and music lover was honoured on Saturday night as nine acts took to the Grand Social stage to perform 'Songs for Derek'. The evening began with several acoustic songs from Richie Egan (of Jape/Redneck Manifesto) and ended with Bell X1 being joined in a singalong by Mundy, Howe Gelb and others. In between, there were songs played and memories shared by Mundy, Tir Na nOg, Freddie White amongst others. All proceeds went to the Nally family.
Derek Nally promoted many gigs over the years, managed Juliet Turner and Ham Sandwich, and had a strong connection with Whelans and The Village. He sadly passed away in July.
Another tribute show due to go ahead next week has now been postponed until December 22. Ham Sandwich will be joined by Blink, The Gandhis, Pugwash and many more on that new date in Whelans. Tickets are €20 and will, again, be donated to the Nally family.
Other tributes for Derek Nally in Whelans will include Christy Moore (October 19) and The Frames (December 15).
