All Revved up and ready to go
THE REVS CREATED Irish rock history last week by touring and playing all 26 Counties in only three days.
“They started the moment they came off stage at The Abbey Hotel in Donegal, and kept going virtually non-stop for the next 72 hours,” says their record company boss Robert Stephenson. “We did 10 in-stores in places like Sligo, Ballyhaunis, Galway, Limerick, Tralee and Killarney; an outdoor show in Wexford on the back of the South East Radio truck; and impromptu gigs next to signposts to add to our County tally.”
They also carried out a guerrilla raid on Virgin Records in Cork.
“With Virgin being the sort of place that you need written permission to fart in, we just barged our way in and started playing acoustically,” Stephenson chuckles. “We sold 60 singles on the back of it, which Alan, the door manager, says is unprecedented. A girl from TG4 called Molly filmed the whole thing, so we’re hoping to edit it down into a little travelogue.”
The Revs were also in riproaring form last weekened when they stuffed The Café Tent at Witnness.
“I’ve been in this business now for 20 years and, honestly, I’ve never seen a crowd go so mad for a band. The single – ‘Wired To The Moon’ – is at number 19 this week, which makes it a month in the chart. They’ve gone from being a small local band with a cult following, to a genuine national force.”
