All Dressed Up And Smelling Of Strangers
So-so covers collection, includes murdered version of Leadbelly
All Dressed Up is a collection of covers by Americana artist Michah P. Hinson that consists of two volumes – the first is quiet and acoustic-led and the other (slightly) more lively. What’s particularly perplexing about this release is that Hinson seems to think the world needs yet another cover of Dylan’s ‘The Times They Are A-Changing’, when in fact the song has been interpreted so often it’s lost all meaning. While the musician’s take on songs by modern acts like Emmy the Great are an interesting enough diversion, we aren’t sure if a collection of Beatles and Buddy Holly imitations is an essential purchase and the distorted version of Leadbelly’s ‘In The Pines’ is the worst rendition of the tune I’ve ever heard.
