Acclaim greets Philip Lynott exhibition in Dublin
The exhibition at Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre has been acclaimed by fans and friends of the legendary Thin Lizzy frontman alike
“It’s a brilliant exhibition,” Frank Murray, former Thin Lizzy road manager and later manager of The Pogues and The Frames said. “It’s really exceeded my expectations. It’s an incredible achievement.”
Murray, who was a close personal friend of Philip and worked alongside him for many years is just one of many who have given what is a hugely ambitious event the thumbs up.
Since Philomena Lynott snipped the ribbon at the door of the Philip Lynott Exhibition on March 3, fans from around the world have been piling into the Creative Space on the top floor at Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, Dublin in big numbers to see The Philip Lynott Exhibition.
Among the close friends of Phil’s in attendance at the opening were Brush Shiels, Paul Brady and Thin Lizzy’s Brian Downey, all of whom were hugely impressed.
“Phil would love it… love it!” Frank Murray added. “So a big thanks is due to Hot Press and everybody involved in putting it together.”
Those sentiments were echoed by Vibe For Philo organiser Smiley Bolger.
“I spent a few hours going around but I reckon I’m gonna have to come back again,” he told us. “I’m reading things as I go along, but I reckon it would take me three or four hours just to work my way through it all. Anybody who has an interest in Philip should see it.”
Indeed it is an exhibition for anyone who loves music, or who wants a unique insight into the life and times of a band as they attempt to take on the world.
“I loved it,” Thin Lizzy’s first manager Terry O’Neill commented. “Congratulations to everyone who put it together. It’s great.”
Another friend of Phil’s who was blown away by the exhibition was Lizzy sleeve designer, Jim Fitzpatrick. “I’m delighted to be here,” he said. “It’s a wonderful tribute to Philip. I’m very impressed. It’s magnificent. Come along and see it!”
“I had a quick look around and found it thought-provoking and moving,” Dave Heffernan, maker of the legendary ‘Old Town’ video added. “I’m looking forward to spending more time there during the week.”
