A Memory is Better than Nothing
The inspiration behind the new MGMT album returns with a record of his own
One of the last survivors of the British post-punk explosion of 1977, Dan Treacy (AKA Television Personalities) has been writing songs for four decades and while he still can't play very well, bless him, his passion for alt pop is as strong as ever on tunes such as 'She's My Yoko' and 'My New Tattoo'. At times, the sloppy synths and ramshackle riffs come across as a little twee. But elsewhere, there is grit. Overall A Memory Is Better Than Nothing is a reminder that there's more to punk rock than the Sex Pistols.
