8Radio set to go live in Dublin Cork & Limerick
The new station is the brainchild of Simon Maher...
Phantom 105.2 founder Simon Maher was by his own admission left feeling a bit battered and bruised by his departure last year from Marconi House, but is bouncing back with 8Radio.com, a new online station that for the next 15 weekends will also be broadcasting every weekend on FM in Dublin, Cork and Limerick under a temporary licence.
Just like Phantom in its swashbuckling pirate days, the station will be based in Whelan’s and be staffed by volunteers, many of whom are new to the wireless game.
“I’ve been asking people what they listen to for a year now and so many people have deserted traditional radio altogether which is a great shame,” Maher - who’s a media tutor at Ballyfermot College of Education - reflects. “Spotify/Deezer and their own playlists which are by their nature a bit less structured than traditional radio. So, when we started putting the music for 8Radio together, we have gone for a much more random selection. Think Tom Waits followed by Dutch Uncles followed by The Blades at lunchtime!"
8radio.com goes live on March 30. Check out [link]www.8radio.com[/link]
