American wrestler Hulk Hogan dies at 71
Hogan was widely regarded as the most recognised wrestler in the world.
American former professional wrestler Hulk Hogan has died at the age of 71.
Hogan's manager delivered the news to NBC News today, saying that Hogan died surrounded by family at his home in Florida.
Born Terry Gene Bollea in 1953, Hogan began his professional wrestling career in 1977 and signed with WWE in 1983. He was the main draw at the first-ever WrestleMania in 1985.
The controversial wrestler became a household name in the sport, facing off against the likes of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Andre The Giant, Vince McMahon and more.
Hogan won six WWE championships and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005.
In a post on X this afternoon, WWE expressed their sadness at the news.
"One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s," the post read.
