Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign to protest at World Ultimate Club Championships in Limerick

New Age is a member of the Israeli Flying Disc Association, which has publicly supported Israel's war on Gaza.

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign will organise a protest at the World Ultimate Club Championships (WUCC) in Limerick this Sunday, August 16.

It seeks to stop the participation of New Age, a team based in central Israel, in the WUCC Frisbee Championships at the University of Limerick (UL).

New Age is a member of the Israeli Flying Disc Association, which has publicly supported Israel's war on Gaza, organised tournaments for Israeli soldiers and includes teams based in illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian land.

“The Palestinian sporting boycott calls for Israeli institutions to be excluded from international sport because of their complicity in Israel’s genocide, apartheid and denial of Palestinian rights,” reads a statement from campaigners on social media.

Six teams, including three from Ireland, have called for New Age to be excluded from the WUCC. Among them are Ranelagh Ultimate, XVI Ultimate and Pelt Ultimate from Ireland, Freezzz Beezzz from Belgium, Revolver from the US and Bristol Open from the UK.

More than 1,000 Palestinian athletes have been killed by Israel since October 2023, including Muhammad Khalifa, a Palestine National Youth Team player who visited the UL Arena with the Gaza Kids to Ireland project.

Earlier this month, the campaign called on UL and UL Sport to refuse to host the event if New Age remained, and on Limerick City and County Council to withdraw its support and sponsorship.

Pelt Ultimate, based in Limerick, issued a statement two days ago, echoing the call for New Age to be prohibited from participating in the WUCC.

“We stand in solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters, especially those within the Ultimate community who have lost their lives and loved ones, and witnessed atrocities that we can only imagine,” reads the statement.
