Katie Taylor’s Croke Park fight to be shown on RTÉ
Streaming platform DAZN, which operates on a subscription basis, will broadcast the fight worldwide.
Katie Taylor's retirement fight at Croke Park will be shown on RTÉ.
The national broadcaster has confirmed that Taylor's final fight on September 5 will be shown on RTÉ 2, the RTÉ Player and 2FM.
"RTÉ was there at the start of Katie's journey as an amateur, and we are delighted to be there for the final chapter," said RTÉ Head of Sport Declan McBennett.
"Katie is, and always will be, one of Ireland's greatest ever sporting icons, and it is fitting that she ends her illustrious career in Croke Park in front of a full stadium and a national audience."
The London 2012 Olympic gold medalist and multi-weight world champion will take on undefeated French challenger Flora Pili in her farewell fight. Defending the WBO, WBA, IBF and Ring Magazine titles, and also fighting for the vacant WBC Super Lightweight Championship.
A live crowd of 80,000 is expected at Croke Park after tickets sold out within minutes. 40,000 tickets were sold in a June presale, with the remaining selling out within 30 minutes two days later.
Taylor has previously spoken about her disbelief at the anticipation for the event, saying, "I'm actually blown away."
"It's been an amazing few weeks since the fight was announced, even on that bus tour going around the country. I felt like a pop star.
"It's the fairytale ending I always wanted, and I can't believe it's actually happening. It's beyond my wildest dreams at this stage, but I still know I have a job to do."
RTÉ will also show the weigh-in and pre-fight press conference.
"I think there is a sense that this is somehow different," said Mr McBennett. "It's a sporting event like no other involving an athlete like no other.
"It is, I think, by all accounts, going to be one of those national moments. To the credit of Brian Peters and Matchroom in particular, while they're all businesspeople, they all understand this is somehow bigger."
The last time a professional boxing event was staged in Croke Park was July 1972 when Muhammad Ali took on Detroit heavyweight Al Lewis.
The bout will be the best-attended boxing match in the history of the country and one of the largest ever for a female sporting event in the world.
