U.S. Election: Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton and more react as Trump makes false victory claims

Though no winner has yet been announced and millions of ballots have yet to be counted in the U.S. election, Donald Trump, speaking at the White House early Wednesday morning, claimed he had already won the election.

"We will be going to the U.S. Supreme Court, we want all voting to stop,” Trump said to supporters, shortly before 2:30 a.m. He continued: "We don't want them to find any ballots at 4 o'clock in the morning and add them to the list.” He also declared: “Frankly, we did win this election.”

Voting began across America yesterday (November 3rd). Due to the large number of mail-in ballots sent before the election day (to avoid spreading Covid-19, which is already rampant in the country), it is likely that votes will not be properly tallied until later in the week.

Trump's incisive comments have sparked outrage from various Democratic politicians, who have been sticking to a steady message: protecting American democracy is paramount.

Hillary Clinton, Trump's opponent in the 2016 election, took to Twitter to say, "We'll know the election results when every ballot is counted. That's how democracy works."

Trump's current competition Joe Biden tweeted: "It's not my place or Donald Trump's place to declare the winner of this election. It's the voters' place."

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who was just re-elected to the House to represent New York's 14th congressional district, said: "Count the votes, respect the results."

And Bernie Sanders, who eerily predicted how this unprecedented election day would go, said: "This is a democracy. Whether Trump likes it or not, we count every vote."
