KNEECAP's DJ Próvaí donates coffee cart to hometown GAA club
"Tiocfaidh Ár Latte," KNEECAP wrote.
KNEECAP member J.J. Ó Dochartaigh, aka DJ Próvaí, has donated a coffee cart and merchandise to help fundraising at his hometown GAA club.
Seán Dolan's GAC of Creggan, Derry hosted Ó Dochartaigh last Wednesday. During his visit, he delivered the 'Pitch N' coffee cart and handed out KNEECAP merchandise to the players, as well as taking photos and signing autographs for his young fans.
The young players received barista training, with the hope that their new skills would help raise money for the club.
Club chairman Eamon McGinley told Derry Now that the gift was meaningful as a financial initiative for the club and a reminder of Ó Dochartaigh's connection to his hometown.
"He contacted us last year about the coffee cart and said that he'd like to donate it to the club," McGinley said.
"Since then, we have trained up a number of the young people and we use that as a social enterprise, so whenever there's parties on or matches on, the young people would operate that. So again, it's about him giving back to the club, but also with all the fame and everything else that comes along with it, he's never forgotten where he has come from and I think that's really important to point out."
Ó Dochartaigh played for the team when they won the Senior Championship in 2009. He said the club offered a safe community for Creggan's children when he was young.
"This was the outlet for the young people back in the day," said Ó Dochartaigh.
"We could just come up here, kick the ball, and we were playing since we were under six. Dolan's offers that for the young people up here. All these young people up here, they're the best side of Creggan because they have this grounding up here and they have this sense of community that you don't get when you're running around the streets with all the head the balls of the day who have no direction."
Ó Dochartaigh, a former Irish language teacher at a Derry secondary school, also mentioned the club's plans to incorporate use of the Irish language in the club.
DJ Próvaí visited his childhood GAA Club over the weekend in Derry and donated a coffee trailer to them. 🔥
Young members of the club are now trained as baristas...they get a new skill and help bring money into Séan Dolan's.
