Hot Flavours: Dak, Little Vietnam, Raha Curry and more
An award-winning farming doc, Kimchi Corn Cheese Pancakes, Tourtière Pork Pies, Bun Cha Spring Roles, and Honey Whiskey are all on this month’s menu
Having gone down the proverbial at the SXSW Film Festival in Texas, the Irish Farmers: A Love Story documentary is getting a special screening on June 22 in Dublin 7’s Light House Cinema.
It focuses on Ailbhe Gerrard, Carina Roseingrave and Sophie Bell, three female farmers based respectively in Tipperary, Clare and Cavan who are all committed to preserving traditional methods.
As funny and warm-hearted as it is fascinating and thought-provoking, it’ll be followed by a Q+A session with the trio and director Haven Worley; a separate chat with The Happy Pear’s Stephen Flynn; and Galway singer Reylta performing her song, ‘Rain’, which graces the soundtrack.
Advance tickets only are available from Eventbrite…

Our distress at the UnderDog Bar closing has been allayed slightly by its 1 Bolton Street, Dublin 1 premises being taken over by Bar Anam and its Dak Korean Soul – or should that be Seoul? – food partners.
Within convenient stumbling distance of HP Central, the Korean Fried Chicken with Garlic Honey Butter is fab, as are the Chicken & Pork Mandu Dumplings and the Kimchi Corn Cheese Pancakes.
The cocktails – ours is the Oaxaca with Charred Corn Mezcal, Licor 43, Palo Santom Coconut Water, Cold Brew Chai and Chocolate Bitters, please – ain’t half bad either…

Receiving rave reviews in the People’s Republic is Little Vietnam, the latest food stall to open on bustling Paul Street.
Presided over by Chef Bini, the Pork Manh Mi, Bun Cha Spring Rolls and Homemade Tropical Lemonade are among the must-tries.

Hitting SuperValu shelves this month is Raha Curry, a small batch premium brand based in Dundalk.
“Rooted in generations of family tradition in spice trading and hospitality”, their Butter Chicken, Onion Bhaji and Naan Bread are as delicious as the ones dished up in their Park Street eatery.

Dundalk is also home to Mo’s Lager, a stub-bottled craft brew which is now being stocked by Tesco...

Air Canada has announced a new nonstop Dublin-Montreal service which will start operating four times a week in May 2027 and take eight hours to reach its destination.
One of our favourite North American cities, its foodie delights include steamé, which is a local twist on the classic hotdog; smoked beef brisket; tourtière, a ground pork pie flavoured with clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and all spice; and poutine, AKA cheese curd and gravy-topped chips…

If it’s nectar from the gods you’re after, look no further than The Whistler Irish Whiskey & Honey Liqueur, a seriously smooth 33% drop from the folk at Boan Distillery in Meath. Made using honey from their own hives, their Honey Lemonade summer pour is made with 50ml of liqueur, Poachers Lemon Soda, lemon and mint to garnish and loads of ice.
