Cause of death for Liam Payne confirmed as ‘polytrauma’ following inquest opening
The former One Direction star passed away last October.
The cause of death for Liam Payne has been confirmed as ‘polytrauma’. This news comes following the opening of an inquest in the UK.
A hearing was held at Buckinghamshire Coroner’s Court on December 17, during which it was revealed that the investigation into the musician’s death may take “some time” due to ongoing legal processes in Argentina, where Payne passed away.
Five individuals, including a friend and hotel staff, have been charged in connection with Payne’s death. Payne died after falling from a third-floor balcony at the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires.
Hotel manager Gilda Martin, receptionist Esteban Grassi, and Payne’s friend Roger Nores all face manslaughter charges.
Hotel worker Ezequiel Pereyra and waiter Braian Paiz have been charged with supplying cocaine.
The coroner’s court said that the inquest into the former One Direction star’s death in the UK has been adjourned until a pre-inquest review on November 6.
Dr Roberto Victor Cohen confirmed his medical cause of death as ‘polytrauma’, meaning multiple traumatic injuries.
During the hearing, Senior Coroner Crispin Butler said: "Whilst there are ongoing investigations in Argentina into the circumstances of Liam’s death, over which I have no legal jurisdiction, it is anticipated that procuring the relevant information to address particularly how Liam came by his death may take some time through the formal channel of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office."
