Watch: First trailer for new comedy series The Politician on Netflix
A student president election hasn't been that dramatic since 1999's Election!
The first full-length trailer for the new Netflix series The Politician shows Ben Platt and Lucy Boynton in a feisty election battle for the role of student body president.
The comedy series also stars the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoey Deutch, Jessica Lange, Dylan McDermott and January Jones. There'll also be guest appearances by Bette Midler and Judith Light.
Platt plays high school student Payton Hobart who is determined to become President of the United States. But first, he has to win the election for student body president against Boynton's Astrid. That's easier said than done...
Gwyneth Paltrow takes the role of Hobart's mother Georgina, while Zoey Deutch plays Infinity Jackson, a cancer patient who was supposed to help Payton in the election battle but destroys his reputation by having made homophobic slurs in the past. Jessica Lange, however, arguably gets the most laughs as Jackson's hilarious mother-figure Rose.

The comedy series was created by Brad Falchuk, Ian Brennan and Ryan Murphy, the latter of which is also responsible for successful shows like American Horror Story, American Crime Story, Pose and Glee.
The Politician will debut on Netflix on September 27.
