Trailer released for Legally Blonde prequel Elle

Prime Video have released the official trailer for Elle, the new Legally Blonde prequel that explores the formative years of Elle Woods. The show stars Lexi Minetree as the fierce Elle Woods, made famous by Reese Witherspoon in the 2001 film.

Set in 1995, the trailer introduces viewers into Elle's life in Bel Air where she spends her days with her friends and family. Her life takes an unexpected turn when her parents, played by Tom Everett Scott and June Diane Raphael, reveal the family is moving to Seattle.

As No Doubt's 'I'm Just a Girl' plays in the background, Elle does not seem happy about this decision. The trailer then cuts to her new Seattle High School, where she sticks out like a sore thumb. Surrounded by students dressed in shades of black and grey, Elle parts through the crowd in her signature pink, a visual reminder that she's a long way from Bel Air.

Elle finds herself navigating a brand-new high school, from awkward encounters and new friendships, to first crushes and heartbreaks.

The show was created by Laura Kittrell, who is known for producing shows such as Insecure and High School, and is co-showrun by Kittrell and Caroline Dries who was an executive producer on the show Vampire Diaries. Reese Witherspoon serves an executive producer, along with Lauren Neustadter, Amanda Brown, Marc Platt and Brad Van Arragon.

Minetree, just 25, will work alongside actors Jacob Moskovitz, Gabrielle Policano, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker and Amy Pietz.

Late actor James Van Der Beek will appear as a reoccurring cast member alongside Brad Harder, Chloe Wepper, Danielle Chand, David Burtka, Jessica Belkin, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, Logan Shroyer, Matt Oberg and Sharon Taylor.

Prime Video will release all eight episodes on July 1.
