Trailer released for Cork-shot film Everybody Digs Bill Evans
The film is scheduled for release in Irish cinemas on September 11.
The trailer for Everybody Digs Bill Evans has been released.
The biographical drama film is based on the novel Intermission by Owen Martell. Shot mainly in Cork but set in the ‘60s in New York City, Everybody Digs Bill Evans follows American jazz pianist Bill Evans as he navigates the death of his bandmate, Scott LaFaro.
In 1961, The Bill Evans trio, including Evans, LaFaro and Paul Motian, played five sets at New York City’s Village Vanguard, marking the last time the band would play together. The performances were recorded and released as two albums, Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby. Eleven days later, LaFaro passed away in a car crash.
According to the official synopsis, the film explores his deep grief, his struggle with opioid addiction and his journey to heal and perform again.
Everybody Digs Bill Evans was directed by Grant Gee and written by Mark O’Halloran. It stars Bill Pullman, Barry Ward, Laurie Metcalf, Valene Kane and Katie McGrath.
The film won the Silver Bear award for Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival, and Gee was also nominated for the Golden Berlin Bear award for Best Film.
Everybody Digs Bill Evans is scheduled for release in Irish cinemas on September 11.
