The legacy of Eva Cassidy to be remembered through a new documentary
The documentary is set to feature unseen material from late singer.
The Irish production company Atom Films has announced that a documentary based on the life of American singer Eva Cassidy is currently underway.
The Essence of Eva will dive into the life of the legendary singer, featuring unseen archival footage, unheard music, voice recordings, and artwork.
It will also feature various other stars such as Sting, who was incredibly impressed by Eva’s unique take on his classic song, 'Fields of Gold'.
Eva’s legacy lives on even after she sadly passed away from Melanoma in 1996 at the age of just 33.
Two years after her death, her versions of 'Fields of Gold' and 'Over the Rainbow' were played by Mike Harding and Terry Wogan on BBC Radio 2 and as a result, a camcorder recording of 'Over the Rainbow' was shown on BBC Two’s Top of the Pops 2.
Shortly after, the compilation album Songbird climbed to the top of the charts, three years after its initial release.
The film, which will document her worldwide success, is directed by Malcolm Willis (Kilimajaro Mama) and Alex Fegen (Older Than Ireland) and is funded by Screen Ireland.
