Sounds from a Safe Harbour announce film programme for 10th anniversary festival
Cillian Murphy's Steve will have its European premiere at SFSH
Sounds from a Safe Harbour (SFSH) has announced the film programme for their 10th anniversary festival, taking place across multiple venues across Cork City from September 11-14.
The event is curated by a team that includes festival director Mary Hickson, actor Cillian Murphy, composer Bryce Dessner, author Max Porter, and folklorist Billy Magfhlionn.
The film programme features three premieres, music documentaries, and artist-led conversations.
Cillian Murphy's Steve will have its European premiere at the festival, alongside the Irish premiere of music documentary It's Never Over: Jeff Buckley.
Some other films on the lineup include, the Irish premiere of Train Dreams, a portrait of a railroad worker whose life unfolds during an era of unprecedented change in early 20th-century America; It’s All Gonna Break: Broken Social, a documentary on rise and creative chaos of Canadian indie collective Broken Social Scene; and In Time, a black-and-white tribute to Irish musician Donal Lunny.
"I am thrilled to be part of the inaugural film programme of SFSH 2025, said Murphy.
"There has always been such a natural crossover between cinema and music, and these delightfully diverse films very much speak to the philosophy and heart of what this festival is all about."
"It is very meaningful for me to have the European premiere of Steve in my hometown of Cork city. Steve is a film that Max Porter wrote listening to 90’s Jungle and the film’s score is deeply influenced by the rhythms and patterns of drum and bass," he adds.
SFSH was established in 2015, in Cork with the intention of integrating music with film and other art forms.
“There was a lovely serendipity around the film programme and how it came together", said festival director, Mary Hickson.
"Lots of personal connections and offerings that formed the whole."
For a full list of screenings you can visit the SFSH website.
Tickets for films will go on sale at 12pm August 5 here.
