Snow Patrol: 25 Years On The Road to air April 24
BBC Northern Ireland join Snow Patrol on the road during a series of American tour dates for an access-all-areas documentary, delving into the world of the illustrious rock ensemble.
Gary, Nathan and Johnny have been making music together since their formation in Dundee in the early ‘90s. Throughout the quarter of a century they have spent together, they have penned unforgettable chart-topping hits including ‘Chasing Cars’ and ‘Run’, performed in some of the world’s most prestigious venues and have seen each other through a number of seemingly impassable personal struggles.
After years spent moving between stages, tour buses and hotels, the trio decided to call a halt. This hiatus lasted almost seven years, after which came the release of Wildness, an album which – in an interview with Hot Press last year – Gary Lightbody is most proud of. “I refuse to say the line, ‘This is the best record yet…’ even though I’m technically about to do so!”, Gary said, in candid conversation with Stuart Clarke, “It’s the record I’m most proud of, which is something I’ve never said before. I have tremendous amounts of faith in it and a tremendous amount of love for it. I’ve never truly had this level of affection for a record.”
Following this, the boys went back on the road for a tour with Ed Sheeran. BBC NI accompanied them for the Autumn leg of the tour, where they were set to perform in Dallas, Mexico City and New Orleans before returning home for two eagerly anticipated shows at Belfast’s SSE Arena.
The documentary goes beyond the surface, delving into the lifeblood of Snow Patrol, featuring sincere discussions about the pressures of fame and rekindling their bond after times of immense turmoil. From requiring a police escort in Dallas to doing an entire show in fancy dress, Snow Patrol: 25 Years On The Road delineates the journey from playing small gigs in Dundee to selling out massive arenas around the globe, navigating the many battles of life in the process.
Filmed and produced by Paul McClean and Gary McCutcheon, Snow Patrol: 25 Years On The Road – BBC Arts NI presents, will be shown on April 24 at 10.35pm on BBC One Northern Ireland.
