Saoirse Ronan stars in the trailer for The Outrun
The StudioCanal film will be released in Irish theatres on September 27.
Ladybird and Little Women actor Saoirse Ronan is set to appear in The Outrun, an adaptation of Amy Liptrot's best-selling memoir of the same name.
The official poster and trailer of the film have been released today, with the latter featuring the song 'Still Reigning' by British artist Self Esteem.
Ronan will play the role of Rona, a young woman who returns to her home on the Scottish islands of Orkney after battling addiction for many years.
Directed by Nora Fingscheidt, the cast also includes Emmy nominee Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You), Saskia Reeves (Slow Horses), and BAFTA winner Stephen Dillane (Alex Rider) alongside Ronan.
The Outrun debuted at Sundance and appeared at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year, where it was met with critical acclaim. It will have its UK premiere as the Opening Night film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August.
Liptrot's memoir won the 2016 Wainwright Prize, the 2017 PEN Ackerley Prize and was a Sunday Times bestseller. The book was translated into 15 languages, selling over 110,000 copies in the UK.
The Outrun will be released in cinemas across Ireland and the UK on Friday, September 27 2024.
