Paul Duane to release next horror feature The Empty Cell
The All you Need is Death director will put out his next feature for 1185 Films.
Director of Irish folk horror film All You Need is Death Paul Duane has announced his next project for 1185 Films, a London-based film and TV production company, according to Deadline.
The Empty Cell, another horror feature, will be set in a prison in near-future Ireland and will tell the story of a transgender woman who dies in solitary confinement, letting others succumb to a curse.
Duane’s last film, All You Need is Death, had its world premiere at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles, followed by an Irish premiere at Cork International Film Festival. Duane funded the project independently, and XYZ Films later acquired the project.
It was set in the world of Irish folk ballads and followed a young couple who "believe that living, modern alchemy is contained in old, forgotten songs", according to XYZ Films' description.
1185, which was founded by Nick Franco, has produced a large number of films, including the Irish comedy movie Ziggy from Father Ted cinematographer Eugene O’Connor.
Speaking with Deadline, Franco said about The Empty Cell: “Paul Duane and I have been working together for 20 years and his career has continued on an upward trajectory with the current release of All You Need Is Death.
“I’m incredibly excited to build on this and welcome such an impressive group of new directors to the fold. Our new found relationship with XYZ Films and Stephen James Thompson overseeing our slate means our proposition is incredibly valuable.”
