Oscar winner Alex Gibney to helm new Elon Musk documentary
A brand new documentary aims to “take on the challenge of examining” Elon Musk and his impact on the world.
Alex Gibney has revealed details of a new documentary focused on controversial tech mogul Elon Musk.
The Oscar winner says he is "hugely excited" to work on the project, described as a "definitive and unvarnished examination of multi-billionaire tech entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter.”
Jigsaw Productions will be producing the film, alongside Closer Media, Anonymous Content and Double Agent.
“Now is the moment for a rigorous portrait of Elon Musk," said Closer Media founder Zhang Xin.
Musk's most recent mainstream controversy came following his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, where he laid off more than two thirds of the company's staff. His time at the company has also been marked by code malfunction and embarrassing mishaps, such as the fumbled change to the verification system which resulted in a swarm of impersonators.
This is not the first time one of Gibney's documentaries has delved into the worlds most controversial, with previous films depicting characters like Elizabeth Holmes, Julian Assange and Lance Armstrong.
His upcoming projects include a hard look at a disgraced tennis star in Boom! Boom! The World vs Boris Becker and a producer credit on Return to Timbuktu, a film about the return of musicians to Mali after the conflict.
Elon Musk recently reclaimed his position as the richest man in the world after Tesla’s stock price rose to boost his net worth from nearly $7 billion to $187 billion.
My new film, “Boom! Boom! The World vs Boris Becker” is a two-part mini-series to be shown soon on AppleTV+. The Berlin Film Festival is only showing Part One, called “Triumph.” Part Two: “Disaster.” (Riffing off the kipling quote players see on way to wimbledon center court.)
