Olivia Newton-John confirms third cancer diagnosis
The Australian singer, previously diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 and cancer in her shoulder in 2013, has now been given another diagnosis.
Olivia Newton-John, best known for her singing career and for portraying Sandy in Grease, has revealed that doctors have discovered a tumor at the base of her spine. Speaking to Australian network Channel Seven, the 69 year old said that she is trying to treat the disease with natural therapies such as cannabis oil. Currently the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes is legal in Australia by prescription from doctors but Newton-John is hopeful that growing cannabis for personal medicinal use will become legal in Australia, as it is in California.
”My dream is that, in Australia soon, it will be available to all the cancer patients and people going through cancer that causes pain.”
Olivia Newton-John has been a supporter of cancer charities since her first diagnosis of breast cancer in 1992 which she eventually beat.
While she has been trying to stay positive in face of the news, she admits that it's not always easy:
"There are moments. I'm human. So if I allow myself to go there, I could easily create that, you know, big fear."
She added that it's important to keep things in perspective during this time:
"I'm a very privileged person and I'm very aware of that. I live in a beautiful place, have a wonderful husband, all these animals I adore, I have an incredible career - I have nothing really to complain about."
