Numerous Irish films to be showcased at Edinburgh International Film Festival
Ireland's Minister for Culture, Patrick O'Donovan will be opening the festival on Tuesday during a networking brunch
Limerick Film Lab announced their first slate of co-production projects, which will be presented at the opening of the Edinburgh Film Festival on Tuesday, as reported by Variety.
A number of grassroots Irish films are set to be showcased at the festival including; No Sleep ‘till Belfast (Ronan Cassidy), a teenage punk and his friend steal a car to reach a Clash gig in Belfast, navigating fractured family ties and the violence 1980s Northern Ireland.
Painting Sadam (Anna Mannion), based on true events, Northern Irish painters hired to decorate Saddam Hussein’s palace become hostages when Iraq invades Kuwait.
Bedsitterland (Pius McGrath), a young woman moves to the city only to find paranoia and menace inside a crumbling boarding house.
The Crier (Richard Lynch), a Traveller girl in 1950s Ireland hunts for her missing sister, confronting banshees, buried curses and a town in denial.
The Minister for Culture, Patrick O'Donovan is set to open the festival at a networking brunch, as the Limerick Film Lab debut their work.
The initiative was launched this summer by Film In Limerick with support from Screen Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, Screen Limerick, Picture NL and the Limerick and Claire Education and Training Board. 18 producers from Scotland, Ireland and Canada were given a week of intensive training and the opportunity to collaborate.
“This event marks a pivotal moment in strengthening Irish-Scottish collaboration within the screen sector,” Emma Farrell of Enterprise Ireland told Variety.
“By spotlighting the Limerick Film Lab as a dynamic incubator for international co-production talent, we’re showcasing Ireland’s deep commitment to nurturing the next generation of global storytellers. Enterprise Ireland is proud to play a central role in connecting international stakeholders with Ireland’s vibrant creative industries.”
