Netflix announces new Taylor Swift documentary 'Miss Americana'

Taylor Swift is making headlines yet again. It's been a hectic couple of months for the star, as she has been at the center of a feud with Scooter Braun, her former manager and now label head.  Today, she also released a Christmas song. Most recently, we now learn that in January 2020, an all-new Taylor Swift documentary will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival entitled Taylor Swift: Miss Americana.

After its festival premiere, the highly anticipated film will be available worldwide through the streaming giant.

Taylor Swift: Miss Americana is described as “a raw and emotionally revealing look at one of the most iconic artists of our time during a transformational period in her life as she learns to embrace her role not only as a songwriter and performer, but as a woman harnessing the full power of her voice.”

Though an official Netflix release date was not announced, we do know that Lana Wilson (After Tiller, The Departure) is serving as the director, with Academy Award-winning producers Morgan Neville and Caitrin Rogers, as well as Christine O’Malley (Wordplay, I.O.U.S.A.).

Last month, before the official documentary announcement, Swift purported that her former record label, Big Machine Records (BMLG), had interfered with her plans to release the Netflix special (among other things), claiming that it ultimately “exercis[ed] tyrannical control over” her by not allowing her to use the songs she wrote and recorded with the label.

We can't wait to see how the film turns out, and hopefully, it will arrive on time as expected!
