Netflix announce new NHS documentary Critical: Between Life and Death
The medical documentary series Critical: Between Life and Death will feature Irish doctor Dr Marie Healy.
Netflix have announced a new medical documentary series Critical: Between Life and Death, is set to release on July 23, 2025. The series will have six episodes, each covering different critical situations that the United Kingdom National Health Service (NHS) faces.
Made by the team behind 24 Hours in A&E, the show follows Dr Marie Healy, an ICU consultant at Royal London hospital in London. She was trained as an anaesthetist and specialist in intensive care in Dublin before moving to London to continue her training. She is now the director of critical care and divisional director of the surgical directorate.
Critical: Between Life and Death looks at four hospitals which make up the entire London Major Trauma System; Royal London, King's College, St. Mary's and St. George's. The series takes place over the corse of 21 days with the use of 40 embedded cameras.
The episodes will cover injuries caused by fairground ride malfunctions, a head injury following an assault and an open leg fracture due to a motorcycle accident. The series will also touch on changes in personality post-trauma and permanent nerve damage resulting from surgery.
