Kneecap to surpass €1m at the box office
The film first hit cinemas on August 8
The producers of Kneecap have revealed that the film is set to surpass €1 million milestone at the Irish/UK Box Office later today.
The critically acclaimed biopic of the eponymous Belfast rap trio arrived in cinemas earlier this month to much fanfare, and is also had the largest ever box office opening for an Irish-language film.
"We're thrilled that KNEECAP has crossed the €1million mark at the Box Office across the island of Ireland," said Wildcard Productions on X. "Not only is it the top grossing Irish film of the year, it now joins the ranks of other modern Irish classic films such as The Banshees of Inisherin, Black 47, The Young Offenders, Brooklyn, An Cailín Ciúin/The Quiet Girl and The Guard to pass this Irish Box Office milestone."
It’s been a whirlwind year for the group, who also released their debut LP Fine Art in June, which, like the feature film, received rave reviews. Today (August 30) also marks the release of the movie’s soundtrack on digital.
Hot Press caught up with Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvaí, earlier in the summer, for the band’s bumper five-page cover interview for our June issue. Catch what the band had to say about the film, album and more here.
