Joaquin Phoenix reprises his Oscar-winning role as the Clown Prince of Crime in Joker: Folie À Deux.
Acclaimed writer/director/producer Todd Phillips also returns, spearheading the sequel to the 2019 box office smash which earned over $1 billion globally, making it the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.
Starring alongside Phoenix is fellow Academy Award-winner Lady Gaga, who'll feature as the Joker's sidekick and love interest Harley Quinn. The singer and actor also took the reigns as music consultant for the movie. Rounding out a stacked cast are Oscar nominees Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener, as well as Zazie Beetz.
The film sees the titular character - real name Arthur Fleck - institutionalised at Arkham Asylum, awaiting trial for his crimes as the Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only stumbles upon true love, but finds the music that's always been inside him.
Phillips, who bagged multiple Academy Award nods for directing, writing and producing Joker, directed the much-anticipated follow-up from a screenplay written alongside Scott Silver, based from characters from the DC universe.
The film was produced by Phillips, Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Joseph Garner, with executive producers including Michael E. Uslan, Georgia Kacandes, Silver, Mark Friedberg and Jason Ruder.
Members of Phillips' renowned behind the camera team from Joker are back, including director of photography Lawrence Sher, production designer Mark Friedberg, editor Jeff Groth and composer Hildur Guđnadóttir, who won the Oscar for her work on the first film. There's also a new addition in the form of costume designer Arianne Phillips.
The film will be released worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, and arrives in cinemas across Ireland on October 4, 2024. For more information, including tickets and screening times, click here.
