KNEECAP and The Damned announced for Tribeca Film Festival
The two films join a programme of 103 feature films spanning 48 countries.
The New York City film festival Tribeca has revealed the line-up for its 2024 edition, including the New York premiere of KNEECAP and the world premiere of The Damned.
Running from June 5 to 16, the festival will open with the documentary Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge and will feature 86 world premieres, two international premieres, six North American premieres and eight New York premieres.
The Damned, directed by Thordur Palsson and produced between Ireland (Wild Atlantic Pictures), the UK, Iceland and Belgium, follows Eva and the choice she must make when a ship sinks near her isolated fishing post: she can either rescue the shipwrecked or survive winter. As they are haunted by guilt, the fishermen start to believe they are being punished for their choice.
The film, which was written by Jamie Hannigan, features several Irish cast members, including Turlough Convery, Francis Magee, and Mícheál Óg Lane. It was developed with the support of Screen Ireland.

Rich Peppiett’s KNEECAP, meanwhile, is an award-winning dramedy set in post-Troubles Belfast. It tells the story of the eponymous rap group and how they became the unexpected face of a protest in defence of the Irish language, through a reimagined telling of the trio’s origin story.
The film won Utah’s Sundance Film Festival Audience Award: NEXT in January, after becoming the first Irish-language title to ever premiere at the festival.
The final selections for the 2024 edition of Tribeca were chosen from a record-breaking pool of 13,016 submissions. The festival will run from June 5 to 16 in New York City.
