Irish premiere of Another Summer documentary to be held in Phibsboro
"Another Summer shares powerful stories of Afghan and Ukrainian refugees in Europe — told through their own eyes," organisers said.
The Irish premiere of Another Summer, a documentary following Afghan and Ukrainian refugees in Europe, is set to be held in Phibsboro next week.
The film will be screened on Monday, November 10 at Technological University Dublin, hosted by local community organisation Phibsboro For All.
In the event description, organisers described Another Summer as "a film by refugees, about refugees."
To create the film, directors Alžběta Kovandová-Bartoníčková and David Edwards provided equipment and training to several first-time Afghan and Ukrainian filmmakers.
The filmmakers were all refugees, having left their home countries for Europe after the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan in 2021 and Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
"Working in small teams, these filmmakers travelled to seven cities across Europe and Turkey to document the experiences of people like themselves — those who fled violence and oppression, searching for safety and dignity in new lands," the event description read.
Throughout Another Summer, the filmmakers aim to capture "life after displacement, exploring what it means to lose everything yet hold onto humanity."
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Kovandová-Bartoníčková, radio presenter Hussain Behtaash and Yelena Cannon.
The event is supported by the Ireland Against Racism Fund and the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration.
Admission is free, though donations are accepted. Registration is available via Eventbrite.
