IFI announces Portishead 25th anniversary screening of their Roseland Ballroom concert in NYC
Tickets start from €9.90 and are available now.
The Irish Film Institute (IFI) has announced a very special music event screening of PNYC: Portishead – Roseland New York on Thursday 2nd May at 6:30 pm at the institute in Temple Bar.
Celebrating 25 years since their legendary New York concert, this incredible live performance - with an accompanying 28 piece orchestra - was filmed at the famed Roseland Ballroom in NYC in July 1997. The performance preceded the release of the Bristol trip-hop legend’s self-titled sophomore album.
Tickets for the screening start from €9.90 and are available now at IFI website or in person at the box office.
Portishead are one of the most enigmatic bands to have emerged from the British music scene over the last three decades. Having emerged seemingly fully formed with a singular sound and vision for its presentation, they have just three albums to their name in that time, a small but massively influential body of work.
Appearing in cinemas to mark its 25th anniversary, this document of Portishead performing live is an extraordinary peek into the band’s mesmeric concerts. Augmented for the occasion by a 28 piece orchestra, it sees Geoff Barrow, Adrian Utley, and magnetic, charismatic singer Beth Gibbons giving remarkable renditions of new songs and highlights of the album including ‘Cowboys’ and ‘Over,’ as well as all-time favourites such as 'Roads,' ‘Sour Times’ and ‘Glory Box’ from their 1994 debut album Dummy.
