Daisy Edgar-Jones picks up Rose D'Or award for 'Normal People'
Jones is the first-ever winner of the prize for Emerging Talent.
Daisy Edgar-Jones has been awarded the inaugural Rose d'Or Emerging Talent award for her performance as Marianne in Sally Rooney's Normal People. This year’s awards also include a special category to recognise innovation in the time of COVID-19 and will stream on Rosedor.com at 3pm on Wednesday, 9 December, 2020.
"Normal People really was a dream job," Edgar-Jones said of winning the award. "I feel so lucky to have played Marianne and it's done so much for me.
"To be acknowledged as an emerging talent by Rose d'Or for it is so special. Thank you so, so much. I'm very proud and very chuffed."
Mark Rowland, chair of the 2020 judges, said: "The Rose d'Or would also like to congratulate Daisy on being inaugural winner of the emerging talent award, which we've instituted to recognise great new talent this year and every year."
Joining Edgar-Jones is Ncuti Gatwa of Sex Education fame, who received the 2020 Performance of the Year Award for playing Eric Effiong.
"What an honour to receive the performance of the year award," Gatwa said. "It's such a joy playing Eric, someone who is so fun but has real depth to him. The fact that people can see themselves in him and relate to the issues we cover in the show is really inspiring and incredibly important to me as an actor."
Previous Rose d'Or Award winners include Ricky Gervais, Joanna Lumley, James Corden, The Crown, Chernobyl and The Graham Norton Show.
Voted for from 766 entries by over 80 international judges from across the television industry, the Rose d'Or Award also includes entries from every major territory in the world, spanning the 12 categories.
