Bill Burr set to star in Irish coming-of-age comedy Bender
This feature marks a debut for writer Adrien Cunningham.
Bill Burr is set to star in a new Irish coming-of-age comedy Bender.
Bender is Irish-born, LA-based writer Adrian Cunningham's first feature. Described as Superbad meets Derry Girls, the narrative of this story is deeply rooted in Cunningham's personal experiences growing up in Dublin.
The film, set to start shooting in Spring 2026, will be directed by Adam Bernstein, an Emmy award-winning television director known for his work in Better Call Saul, 30 Rock, Scrubs, Fargo, and Pluribus.
Bender is set in the late 70's in post-punk Dublin, and stars Bill Burr, who plays an American record-store owner who attempts to help a group of misfit teenagers lose their virginity at the massive gathering for the Pope’s visit.
Burr earned two Emmy nominations for his recently released Hulu special, Bill Burr: Drop Dead. He made his Broadway debut in March, 2025 in David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross, starring alongside Kieran Culkin and Bob Odenkirk.
Production of the project is being taken over by D6 Entertainment, headed by Cunningham and Lesley-Ann Brandt (Lucifer). They are also partnering with the Irish company ReflektorMedia.
