Barry Keoghan set to host an event with foster care children in the UK
The Banshees of Inisherin star aims to inspire children in foster care to "reach their dreams".
Irish actor Barry Keoghan will spend the day with foster children in the UK as part of an event that aims to show children in foster care pathways into the film industry.
The invitation-only event sees Keoghan team up with Actors Studio. It will be held at the British Pinewood Studios, which have served as a production facility for films such as the Star Wars saga, Jurassic World, and Paddington.
Diverse Care, an independent foster provider, announced the event on Instagram, saying, "We cannot wait to take a group of our amazing children to an invitation-only event with Actors Studio, based in Pinewood Studios!"
Continuing, they said, "They will be spending the day with BAFTA award-winning actor Barry Keoghan. Having grown up in foster care himself, Barry has long aimed to show kids in care that there are opportunities and pathways for them in the film industry and is looking forward to inspiring them to reach for their dreams".
Keoghan took to his Instagram story yesterday, posting, "Thank you for making this happen, lads."
The Irish actor has been open about his experiences with foster care. First entering the system at age 12 after his mother passed away, both Keoghan and his brother, Eric, were placed in a total of 13 foster care homes.
After leaving school at a young age, Keoghan pursued a career in film, landing his first role in the 2011 crime drama Between The Canal before being cast in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk in 2017.
The actor was nominated for two Academy Awards in both 2023 and 2024 for his roles in Martin McDonagh's The Banshees of Inisherin and Emerald Fennell's Saltburn, respectively.
