Adolescence producers set to adapt 1984 film Threads into TV drama
Information regarding the cast and release date have not been announced.
Warp Films, the production company behind the Netflix show Adolescence, has acquired the 1984 film Threads for development into a TV drama.
The movie was nominated for seven BAFTA awards and earned four, including Best Single Drama and Best Film Editor. It explores life in nuclear war-era Britain in the city of Sheffield.
“Threads was, and remains, an unflinchingly honest drama that imagines the devastating effects of nuclear conflict on ordinary people,” said founder and CEO of Warp Films, Mark Herbert. “This story aligns perfectly with our ethos of telling powerful, grounded narratives that deeply connect with audiences. Reimagining this classic film as a TV drama gives us a unique opportunity to explore its modern relevance.”
Warp Films has developed other shows such as The Last Panthers, The Virtues and This is England. Their recent success, Adolescence, garnered 66.3 million views within two weeks, which is the most ever for a limited series on Netflix.
