'Yellow Submarine’ returns to cinemas for 50th anniversary
The 1968 animated film by The Beatles, ‘Yellow Submarine’ will celebrate its 50th anniversary later this year, and to mark this, the film is returning to cinemas with 4K digital restoration and a 5.1 stereo surround sound remix.
The film’s digital restoration was done frame by frame, without any automated software, by a team at Triage Motion Picture Services and Eque Inc., while the songs were remixed and remastered at Abbey Road Studios by music engineer Peter Cobbin.
The children’s animated musical comedy, directed by George Dunning, was inspired by the music of The Beatles, and received widespread critical acclaim upon its release.
The restored film will be released through a deal with The Beatle’s Apple Corps Ltd., Abramorama Films and Universal Music Group.
The film will be screened in selected theatres in Ireland and the UK on July 8. Tickets go on sale on April 17 and further information is available at facebook.com/yellowsubmarinethefilm or http://www.yellowsubmarine.film/.
