Watch: The Latest Trailer for HBO's Westworld
New footage shows Anthony Hopkins channeling Hannibal Lecter through a character who is not Hannibal Lecter.
Back in 1973, Michael Crichton, known for his work on the novel that would become Jurassic Park, released the film Westworld, which he wrote and directed. It was about a western theme park populated by robotic people who helped bring to life a simulation of the American frontier, all for the sake of adventurous park goers. Unfortunately, the robots go rogue and start to kill the guests. HBO’s take on the cult classic film looks to be a bit higher concept, with it described as “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.”
The new miniseries shares the same basic concept as the original film. The newest trailer shows high production values that we’ve come to expect from HBO, which has given us the likes of Game of Thrones and True Detective. It looks like Westworld may attempt to show us the consequences of our desire for self-indulgence.
Westworld will make its North American debut on 2 October. It will be broadcast on Sky Atlantic in the UK sometime this October.
