When a young girl's father unjustly ends up in prison, she must disguise herself as a boy to provide for her family.
The Irish studio Cartoon Saloon, known for Song of the Sea and The Secret of Kells, is working on The Breadwinner together with Canada’s Aircraft Pictures and Luxembourg’s Melusine Productions.
The story is based on the novel of the same name by Deborah Ellis. In Afghanistan, an 11-year old girl, Parvana, has to provide for her family in a male-dominated culture.
