Van Morrison announced as Queen's University Belfast's first musical Artist in Residence
Morrison will provide two fully-funded scholarships for Queen's students to participate in Higher Education.
Van Morrison becomes the first musician to hold the title 'Artist in Residence' at Queen's University Belfast.
The partnership includes Morrison providing two fully-funded scholarships to undergraduate students to pursue Music studies at Queen’s.
The Widening Participation scholarships will cover tuition fees and additional costs for students who are most able but least likely to participate in Higher Education through ‘The Van Morrison Official Rhythm & Blues Foundation.’ The aim of these scholarships are to help students achieve their dreams of becoming professional musicians.
The singer-songwriter will perform a series of live concerts across Belfast as part of the partnership, including three concerts in Whitla Hall later this month with discounted tickets for students.
Queen's University Belfast says how: "This is a special way to celebrate a momentous year for both Queen's and Morrison - our 180th anniversary and the singer-songwriter's 80th birthday."
Morrison spoke on his new-found title: “I am delighted to deepen my relationship with Queen’s University Belfast and look forward to performing at a number of exclusive events throughout the year. This partnership is also a wonderful opportunity to inspire students, celebrate Belfast’s rich musical heritage, and give back by supporting the next generation of musicians.”
