TV Presenter Denis Norden dies aged 96
The comedy writer and television host passed away on Wednesday morning after spending many weeks at the Royal Free Hospital in North London.
His children Nick and Maggie Norden issued a statement this morning announcing his death. They added "we'd like to say a huge thank you to all the dedicated staff and doctors who have looked after him - with much devotion". They called the TV host a "wonderful dad, a loving grandfather and great great-grandfather" who "gave his laughter-mongering to so many".
Norden served in the RAF in WW2 and while there wrote sketches to entertain other soldiers. He met future writing partner Frank Muir in 1947 and co-created Take It From Here radio show. The comedy presenter is perhaps best known for ITV blooper show It'll be Alright On The Night. Its popularity resulted in a spin off show Denis Norden's Laughter File.
The TV personality suffered from macular disease, a degenerative eye condition and became a patron of the Macular society after he stepped down from It'll Be Alright On The Night in 2006.
